I received an invitation to a private New Year’s party from my old friend, Mr. Funaki, who is also known as “Funapion”, and visited Funapion’s favorite restaurant, Na camo guro in Azabu Juban.

When I went down the long stairs leading to the basement and open the heavy door, I found a stylish wine bar.

I had the signature menu of duck dishes from Yamagata Mogami.
This is exquisite.

A number of top-notch plates of duck dishes I’ve ever eaten.

The duck meat grilled right in front of you resonates with all five senses in its presentation, aroma, sound, and taste.
The wine paired with it is Urlar in New Zealand, which is owned by Nishi Sake Distillery, of which Funapyo is a director.

We tasted 5 types of Urlar , Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, Pinot Noir, special Pinot Noir, Merlot / Cabernet Franc.
Urlar, I drank it for the first time in a long time, but its sharpened and elegant taste was becoming more and more polished.

Especially La France & Duck loin and Sauvignon Blanc.

Rose with Duck custard.

Pinot Noir on grilled Duck.

The combination of the famous Vinegar-Duck and the special Pinot Noir.

They were the best marriage.
The last drink was “Temptation of the Angel” of Nishi Sake Distillery.

I was thrilled by the sharpened sensual taste reminiscent of Romano Levi’s grappa.

It was a complete treat.
Thank you, Mr. Funapion.

Let’s have a dinner again next time.
