A business meeting lunch with Michael Rogers

Oct. 7

I had a business meeting lunch with Michael Rogers of Overland Wines, a wine agent visiting Japan from Hong Kong, at Shinjuku Tavern on S.

I have been doing business with him for nearly 30 years.

It seems that wine is not selling well worldwide.

The depreciation of the yen is accelerating further, and the wine industry is likely to continue to be in a difficult situation for a while.

I went home and cooked quickly.

Edamame

Bonito Sashimi

Steamed Rice with Eel

I took the broth and prepared the steamed rice, so the eel rice was ready right away.

Today’s Wine

Joseph Drathen Pinot Noir 2024 1,280 yen

It is a Pinot Noir wine I found on a supermarket that I stopped by on my way home from Jindaiji Temple.

“Pinot Noir for 1,280 yen, is it cheap?”  When I looked at the bottle, I realized that it was from Nahe, Germany.

Even though it’s Germany, it’s not Spätburgunder, it’s Pinot Noir.

I bought it to try it out.

Well, I took a bite thinking it wouldn’t be delicious.

Somewhat, that? This might be delicious?

I felt a soft red fruits flavor, beautiful acidity, and smooth mouthfeel.

Also, it has a clean mouthfeel without any unpleasant taste.

It’s delicious.

I didn’t expect it at all, but on the contrary, it spurred the deliciousness.

It is also perfect for eel cooked rice.

The importer is Overseas, which is a owner company of Cardi Coffee.

Hmm, Pinot Noir from Nahe, Germany, this is out of my business range.

I lose.
