Dec 29 Oh! so cold ! I was really surprised that it was snow today in Tokyo on December. I thought it was the first time for more than 15 years. Any way, this was the first day of Cave de Re-Lax's the final sale. We received a lot of customers today in spite of the very bad weather. Thank you very much ! Then the dinner of today was "ODEN" , a kind of Japanese "Potaufeu". I think ODEN is one of the most difficult Japanese foods in order to make a good combination with wine. I am sure that the most Japanese people want to drink ATSUKAN, a hot SAKE, with ODEN. However I tried to drink wine today.... even though I love ODEN with Atsukan.... |

1st Grace wine Koshu 2004 1260 yen Of course I chose a Japanese wine for ODEN. This was a Koshu Nouveau. I loved this big-unique- fresh- fruits aroma. Oh! amazing ! What a nice combination ODEN and Koshu was ! I enjoyed much the sweetness and slight tannin of Koshu made a good balance with the taste of ODEN. 2nd COCO Farm Red 2003 1500 yen I remember that this wine made from Japanese grapes and California grapes that are from the vineyards owned by COCO Farm winery. The red wine was a pretty full bodied style within Japanese wines. Spicy notes of ripe raspberry, fig, nutmeg and clove. This was good for the final taste of ODEN, which of the taste was getting stronger due to the boiled down soup. I got a big success for the combination of ODEN an wine. Congratulations ! |
