You’re the Usuke Boys

Oct. 8

On the anniversary of my uncle’s death, I went to visit his grave in Saitama.

Seven years seems to go by in the blink of an eye.

1st Shinshu Takayama Winery Sauvignon Blanc 2021  3,025 yen

I drank Mr. Takano’s, who is the winemaker & grape grower, Sauvignon Blanc for the first time in a long time.

I felt a beautiful acid and a sharp minerality.

After all, Mr. Takano’s Sauvignon Blanc is wonderful.

Despite this transparency and dry taste, you can also feel the plump fruit taste.

If Mr. Usuke Asai, who is a famous winemaker passed away 21 years ago, made Sauvignon Blanc in Nagano in this day and age, wouldn’t it be like this?

Takano-san, you’re the Usuke Boys after all.

2nd Diamond Shuzo Chanter Van du Chabudai Rouge 2021  1,800 yen

The red is Muscat Bailey A prepared by Mr. Yoshio Amamiya in Katsunuma, Yamanashi.

It is prepared with ripe grapes harvested in Hosaka Yamanashi, which is Yoshio’s specialty.

At this price point, this quality seems to be a good choice for global yardsticks.

It has a gentle natural mouthfeel and a very deep fruit flavor.

I felt a very good balance of sweet flavors unique to the variety.

After all, Yoshio is in a different class in the winemakers who produce Muscat Bailey A.

I’m sure Asai-san would rave about this one.

This red wine is very delicious.
