Hewitt ++

No Wine Day

Sep. 4

I was invited to some wine tasting dinner today.

We tried to taste “Hewitt ++” by vertical from 2012 to 2116.

Hewitt is a super California wine and “++” is the top cuvee difficult to find.

It is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the single estate vineyard in the heartland of Rutherford Napa Valley.

The following comment is from the web-site of the winery.

“The grapes are hand sorted on tables twice: first as clusters to remove any leaves or inferior fruit and then, after de-stemming, as individual grapes. This gentle process retained about 70 percent whole berries. In addition, grapes go through two to five days of cold soaking before fermentation, followed by extended skin contact, developed the rich varietal character. Bâtonnage (stirring) during malolactic fermentation in the barrel rounds out the acidity and softened the tannins. Four rackings during barrel aging naturally clarify our wine, and after blending, we bottled this perfectly balanced wine without fining.”

The spec is super outstanding, isn’t it?

The taste is far different from my Napa Cabernet Sauvignon image.

I felt very pure fruits, very elegant acidity, very soft tannin and very tender mouthfeel.

What a cool and elegant red wine is this!

Especially, Vintage 2016 is super pure, natural and elegant.

It was an outstandingly beautiful red wine.

Amazingly, this Cabernet Sauvignon was very good for Seafood cuisines.

Hewitt has not been imported to Japan yet.

However, it will be soon imported to Japan by the host company of the tasting party today.

It was a tremendously nice wine event.

Thank you very much for inviting me!
