Tohoku wine tasting

No Wine Day

Nov. 15

Today, I am on a one-day business trip to Koriyama.

Always, the lunch box I eat on the Shinkansen-train heading to Fukushima is “Fukagawa Meshi”.

Today’s job is to taste the wines of Tohoku.

I seriously tasted the wines of Tohoku that I have selected with the six people involved.

We were confronted with 16 kinds of wines from Aomori, Iwate, Akita, and Yamagata.

This is my first time to have a tasting event with only Tohoku wines.

It was very interesting to do a comparative tasting like this, and the individuality of each wine and prefecture was clearly visible.

It was the first time I drank Kanda wine from Rikuzen-Takada, and it was an extremely high quality wine.

The Riesling from Omori Town, Akita Prefecture is also very good.

About 30 years ago, I visited the Riesling vineyards in Omori and drank wine, but it has evolved to a different dimension.

Wine from Tohoku has become a great thing.

When it comes to Japan wine producing areas, Hokkaido and Nagano prefectures are the center of attention, but I was reminded that we should not forget the Tohoku region, which also has a cool climate.

After a series of tastings, we moved the venue to an izakaya in front of Koriyama Station to try the compatibility of Tohoku wine with foods.

We have received permission to bring wine into this shop in advance.

Even on the izakaya menu, Tohoku wine is perfect.

It goes especially well with sashimi and hot pot.

However, as planned, it gradually became just a drinking party.

The delicious local wine and local cuisine that you can taste in Tohoku are the best!

On the way, I returnd to Tokyo by bullet train.

I had a little bit of Gassan Wine Koshu in the train that I pulled out of the drinking party.

I think we did a good job.

Thank you very much.
